Tips For Drivers

As petrol prices drop, motorists should take advantage of their savings at the pump and invest it back into their vehicles. By spending a little now to increase fuel efficiency, drivers can multiply fuel savings and save more money at the pump.
Tyre punctures can only be repaired in the tread area and should not be over 1/4″ in diameter. Quick DIY repairs do exist, but long-term repairs can only be completed by removing the tyre from the wheel. A patch must be applied to seal the inner liner and the tyre should be inspected for further damage.
Keep headlights, tail lights and signal lights clean. External dirt and debris can dim operational lights from being seen by others.
Make sure that your headlights are properly aimed. Misaimed headlights blind other drivers and reduce your ability to see the road.
If there is any doubt on whether or not your headlights should be on, turn them on.
Don’t overdrive your headlights; you should be able to stop inside the illuminated area, otherwise you are creating a blind crash area in front of your vehicle.
If your wipers are starting to deteriorate don't delay replacing them. They should be replaced every 6 months.
Make sure heaters, defrosters and wipers work properly.
Check to see that all exterior and interior lights work and headlights are properly aimed.
Check the tyre tread depth and tyre pressure of all tyres, including the spare.
Regularly check your tyre pressure and have the brakes checked. They are the most important safety feature of your car.
Keep your gas tank at least half full throughout the cold weather to prevent moisture from forming in gas lines and possibly freezing.
Be diligent about changing the oil and filter at recommended intervals. Dirty oil can spell trouble in winter.
Check the fuel, air and transmission filters at the same time.
Keep your car regularly serviced.
Tyres Maintaining your vehicle’s tyres is not only essential to getting better mileage, but it is also crucial to ensuring safety on the road. To maximize tyre life, we recommend checking tyre condition and pressure regularly especially before any long trip.

It takes only five minutes to check tyre inflation, including the spare. Since tyres effect a vehicle’s ride, handling and traction, checking tyre pressure is important
Washing Don't use dishwashing detergent when washing the car. It gets the car clean, but strips any protective wax coatings, exposing the vehicle to possible nicks, scratches, and stains. A carwash solution will preserve your car's finish.

When water evaporates, it leaves minerals and dirt on the surface of your car. So when you're done with the wash, dry the surface.
Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes petrol. It can lower your petrol mileage by 33% at motorway speeds and by 5% around town. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than petrol money.

Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. The more weight your car is carrying the more fuel required to move it around.
Burnt Rubber Could mean slipping drive belts or loose hoses.
Hot Oil Oil could be leaking into the exhaust system.
Petrol A gas leak. Perhaps a fuel injector or the gas tank.
Syrup The sweet smell of syrup could mean the car is leaking engine coolant.
Burning Carpet The smell could be a sign of brake trouble.
